How to Incorporate Pumpkins in Seasonal Decorations

Color -There are countless ways that you can evoke a fall feeling in your apartment. Bring in the rich color of pumpkin, a combination of the sensuality of red and the vitality of yellow. Pumpkin is in the warm color tones and can be a stimulant for socializing or appetite.

Accessories – Another way to subtly add an autumn ambiance to your home is to use pumpkins as accessories. Think outside-of-the-box and choose special pumpkin accessories like harvest-themed plates with pumpkins on them, or autumn artwork and prints to fill wall space.

Fragrances – For the severely designed-challenged who still desire fall accents, start small with simple changes. Try buying pumpkin spice candles or aromatherapy oils that are pumpkin scented.

Where to Place Them?

In the Living Room – Arrange pumpkins of varying shades and sizes on a mantle piece, combining with other greenery. Be sure to also include candles with complementary colors and heights. Picture frames that have warm colors would work well on the mantle also.

In the Dining Room – Hollow out a pumpkin and cut a florist’s foam to fit. Fill with potting soil and silk, dried or real flowers. To make a second version, use a fluted, glass pie dish, a small glass saucer, glass ramekin and tea lights. Elevate the saucer in the center of the pie dish by sitting it on top of glass ramekin. Place a small to medium-sized pumpkin on top and fill the lower level with water. Float amber-colored tea lights in the water and use silk greenery to garnish the table around the pie dish.

In a Bedroom – Changing your curtains for the season is a great idea anyway, but if you consider the fabric of the panels you choose, you can have heavier, substantial materials like velvet that will help keep your room warm during the winter and act as a noise barrier if you live in a busy area and apartment complex.

Start sprucing up your apartment today and get into the fall decorating spirit. Use these tips and suggestions as a starting point to make sure your space is everything you desire.
